Mandatory SB Garmin WAAS

Garmin recently announced major mandatory software upgrades to the Main software (3.00) and GPS Software (3.0) for the 400W/500W Series units. Some bugs and compatibility issues have been addressed. New features and compatibility have been added as well. Revised antenna compatibility has been addressed for the removal of IFR GPS operational limitations. As a result of the main and GPS software updates, there are several internal, user configurations that are lost. The main software (3.00) upgrade contains a several new capabilities and features including:

Added the ability to load an arrival or departure without first removing existing arrival or departure, addressing the issue described in Service Alert 070227-00 Reduced TAWS nuisance alerts for circling approaches Corrected compatibility issue with WX500 Stormscope identified in Installation Bulletin 0711 Added ability to store and remotely tune up to 15 radio channels Added XM weather products: Lightning, Cell Movement, and Winds Aloft Added compatibility with Avidyne products: EXP5000 PFD, EX5000 MFD and EX500 MFD Added capability to display vertical GPS approach guidance on Honeywell EFS 40/50 Added capability to display traffic from Honeywell KMH 980 (KMH 920) and KTA 970 (KTA 910) Improved prompting for course reversals at IAF transitions on approach Improved Auto-Zoom functionality Improved VNAV functionality during holds Corrected the operation of the E6B winds aloft calculation on Winds page Unit now retains user settings on NAV1 page over a power cycle (400W series units) Unit now starts up in last mode used (GPS or VLOC) instead of reverting to GPS mode at startup Corrected issue of intermittent screen flashing The GPS software version (3.0) allows for removal of the IFR GPS operational limitation when using a compliant antenna. As a result, Garmin has specified certain compatible antennas. These include the Garmin GA35, GA36, GA-37 and the Comant CI 2580-200, CI 2728-200, CI 2728-410. Other Comant WAAS antennas such as the CI 401-421, CI 401-460, CI 420-420, CI 420-421 are not on the list. The Main software upgrade must be completed before the GPS software upgrade. Removal of the unit from the aircraft is not necessary. The AFMS must be replaced only when the installation utilizes a compatible GPS antenna without IFR GPS operational limitations (see list above). Because of the addition of 3 new XM products, custom user settings on the XM Weather page will revert to the default factory settings. Also, all user settings including user waypoints will be lost during the software updating process. Two loader cards are required to complete the software upgrade. Cobham PLC Reaches Agreement to Purchase S-Tec

On 21 November 2007, Cobham PLC, an international aerospace and defense company, announced an agreement to purchase S-Tec Corporation of Mineral Wells, Texas from Meggitt. Subject to regulatory approval, purchase completion is anticipated before the year's end. S-Tec designs, certifies and manufactures autopilot systems for general aviation aircraft. This autopilot technology will be a valuable expansion to Cobham's EFIS type displays. S-Tec also brings a strong retrofit market presence that will benefit Cobham. S-Tec's general aviation flight control systems adds to Cobham avionics' line of products including Artex, Comant, Chelton, NAT, and others.

Garmin Announces New Software Upgrades for the GMX-200 The new upgrades provide cost effective runway and approach charts, much like the previously available Chartview option available on the MX20 but at a less expensive price. SafeTaxi: The SafeTaxi database contains the graphical depiction of airport diagrams. This database is currently only available for the US coverage region. Single Update: $35 Annual Service: $195 for 7 consecutive cycles, one update per cycle FliteCharts: The FliteCharts database contains electronic navigation charts for terminal approach plates, arrival and departure procedures, and airport diagrams. Single Update: $95 Annual Service: $395 for 13 consecutive cycles, one update per cycle

Remember to take advantage of the Garmin MFD trade-in program. Receive $4,000 off the list price of a new GMX 200 Standard model, $4,500 off the list of the GMX Traffic model, $5,000 of the GMX Radar model or $6,000 off the list price of the GMX 200 Radar/Traffic model. Trade in any MFD, including models from Avidyne, Bendix/King, Arnav Systems, Argus and the MX 20.

Garmin WAAS / WX-500 Issue

Under certain conditions, the Garmin 400W/500W series units will not provide serial heading information to the L3 WX-500 Stormscope. Even if the WX-500 unit is wired for synchro heading, there may be issues with the WX-500, GDL-69 datalink, and crossfill between two Garmin units. Also, some issues have been encountered with the COM flip/flop key not switching between the active and standby frequencies. As of 8/20/07, Garmin plans to resolve these issue with the next software release. The software upgrade should be able to be completed at your local Garmin authorized facility.

SEA Welcomes Rob Reed

Southeast Aerospace is pleased to announce the addition of Robert Reed as Aircraft Modifications Manager. He brings 16 years of general aviation experience to Southeast Aerospace. Prior to joining Southeast Aerospace Rob was responsible for engineering and installations at Hawker Beechcraft Services, Tampa and prior to that worked from A&P mechanic to avionics installer to systems engineer at Banyan Air Service in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Rob will oversee the aircraft modification department specifically in relation to corporate aircraft. His main roles will be to inform the corporate aviation industry of Southeast Aerospace's facilities and capabilities as a Premier Avionics Source. New Bendix/King MFD & PFD

KSN 770	Honeywell recently announced 2 new products that are sure to draw some attention to their Bendix/King product line. With a new logo and renewed approach towards general aviation, Honeywell will be offering the KSN 770 MFD and KFD 840 PFD systems. Both displays are derived from the technology used in existing business jet avionics systems produced by Honeywell. The KSN 770 will mark the first WAAS GPS/Nav/Comm w/ full MFD capabilities including weather radar display. The Full VGA LCD glass display appears to have very high resolution with excellent brightness and sunlight readability. Some of the other standard features of the KSN 770 that will be offered include: FMS feel and functionality Advanced controls: intuitive menus, line select keys, and CCD (Cursor Control Device) Graphical Flight Plans Standard WAAS LPV 10 Watt VHF comm EGPWS/Terrain interface Stormscope interface Optional features will include: Integrated TAWS Radar interface (RDR-2000/2100, other digital sensors proposed) Traffic interface Weather datalink interface Charts and Maps 16 Watt comm Preliminary dimensions for the KSN 770 are 6.25"W x 5.25"H x 10"D with approximately 5.75 diagonal display space. The KFD 840 Primary Flight Display will offer Part 23 piston aircraft an 8.4" display including ADI, Air Data, and HSI display. Integrated ADC and AHRS are included. New Avidyne Products

Recently Avidyne announced their new TWX670 Tactical Weather Detection System. The TWX670 will be the first color, real-time, lightning detection sensor for general aviation. According to Avidyne, the TWX670 will detect lightning more accurately than other lightning detection systems through advanced technology developed by Avidyne's Safety Systems Group (formerly Ryan International) in Columbus, Ohio. Some of the TWX670 features include: Intuitive color-coded storm cell intensity display 0 to 25 nm range Enhanced noise immunity Geostabilized data to compensate for aircraft maneuvering Spectrum analyzer display identifies sources of electrical noise Compatible with Avidyne EX500 / EX5000 MFD and 3-ATI MHD The system has received TSO C110a
	Avidyne also introduced the MLB700 Datalink Receiver system to interface with their EX500 and EX5000 Multifunction displays. The MLB700 features WSI Inflight weather service and SIRIUS Satellite Radio programming. A wireless remote control (RC70) is also provided. This remote control allows control of the audio programming and includes an LCD with category/channel name, channel number, artist name, song title and more. The MLB700 with data and audio capability will be priced at $5495. A data only version of the MLB700 will also be available with a starting price of $4745. Combination discounts with Avidyne EX500 will be offered by Avidyne. Marine Helicopter Squadron 361 Veterans Association

Southeast Aerospace is proud to announce our participation in the Marine Helicopter Squadron 361 Veterans Association restoration of a Marine Corps (Sikorsky) UH-34D helicopter used by the U.S. military for combat rescue in Vietnam. The restoration project is utilized as a traveling museum to both recognize and memorialize servicemen and women who served during the Vietnam era in which this Marine helicopter was operational. Garmin Non-WAAS Discontinued

Effective March 30, 2007 Garmin is discontinuing all non-WAAS GPS 400, GNC 420, GNS 430, GPS 500 & GNS 530 units. All orders placed for these products after March 30, 2007 will be filled as WAAS enabled versions.

AEA Scholarship Program

Southeast Aerospace is proud to announce participation in Aircraft Electronics Association Educational Foundation in its pursuit to enhance, promote and secure the future of aviation. SEA will be funding an annual scholarship to a high school senior and/or college student who plans to or is attending an accredited school in an avionics or aircraft maintenance program. Southeast Aerospace is pleased to be joining many other avionic institutions in providing for the future generations of avionic professionals. The Aircraft Electronics Association Education Foundation has awarded nearly $1,000,000 to students seeking careers in the aircraft electronics and aviation maintenance industry since 1990. This year they will be awarding at least 32 scholarships valued at more than $100,000 for the 2007-2008 school year. Southeast Aerospace's scholarship will be joined with 26 other awards that will be presented to students pursuing careers in aircraft electronics and aviation maintenance. The objective of these scholarships is to recognize and reward the individuals who best represent the characteristics that guide us to success in this exciting industry.
